I asked support at my hosting provider and they said that some of my tables were "over indexed."

I was like, that's ridiculous! But I removed a bunch of indexes and...

It totally worked.

My 30 second query now takes .3 seconds.

Of course now I'm in danger of destroying the performance of other queries that actually require the indexes I removed.

But anyway, that seems to be the only solution at the moment. Maybe 6.0 will be free of this problem.
