Thanks Erin!! You are helping a lot.

Your suggestion of changing threads_cache I don't know if this is your version vs mine (4.0.25) but I think the variable should be thread_cache_size that's the one I could see closest matched.

I made your other suggested changes but I am hesitating on changing max_connections. The server was only up for about four hours when I did the output you saw. While right now max_connections is about 86 but we have a couple sites that go through cycles (especially around basketball season) that the connections explode. In fact, I would not be surprised if it will max out on 300 connections.

I set the temp table size to 500MB because I saw my server RAM usage at less than 750MB with a 4GB server and I thought it was ridiculous that I was having these queries hang with "copying to tmp table" so I figured I simply needed to up it. I didn't think it would cause other things to max out. The way I thought it would be is the allotted space that is given for temporary tables. I.e. a one-time allocation, am I wrong on that one?

Thanks for the MB conversion. I am not good at it either so I used the short version.

I know enough to be dangerous. Thanks for being patient!
