Re: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

After messing around with my mount partitions, I unfortunately lost the /var/run/mysqld folder, and right now I can't get MySQL to work *at all*.

Distro: Debian Sarge (unstable)

apt-get remove mysql-*
dpkg --purge mysql

apt-get install mysql-common mysql-client mysql-server

And still this error isn't resolved.
SELinux isn't installed on this box.

Can anyone shed some light onto this please?
