Re: Error:0 cannot create windows service for MySQL

Just to explain how I got around the problem as I was getting the same error on a clean XP-Pro box:

Totally removed all traces of the installation that had failed - add/remove programs, program files/Mysql folder and registry entries.
Disabled my McAfee firewall prior to installation.
Ran the install and chose all the default options *except* the service name.
In the drop-down for the service name I chose MySQL41 instead of the default MySQL one.
Finished the install.

Hope this saves some tearing-out of hair
