Re: SOLUTION - Hosts File

I just solved a very difficult problem thanks to reading this thread.

I installed MySQL 5.5 developmental version, Apache 2.2.15, and PHP 5.3.2, all on Windows Vista.

Every time I tried to do anything with the database from PHP, it would time out. I used another program (HeidiSQL) to access MySQL, and that worked just fine.

The problem turned out to be in the hosts file. In this default Vista installation, there were two entries for localhost:

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost

The second one, with the two colons, is for IPv6. Once I commented out the IPv6 line, like this, it started to work.

# ::1 localhost

Hopefully Sun/Oracle can get this solved.
