This discussion is going year after year after year...
I tried all "solutions" which I could dig out here...
I have XP Pro SP3 (32bit)
I was careless enough to forget how much troubles I had to install previous version of MySQL (4.x) that time the solution of overcoming infamous 1067 error was to remove old files, but this time when I am trying to install MySQL 5.5 - I have almost lost any hope.

Gosh! What one can expect from programmers who used all their mental power to invent "Nr."?!

I am not novice, but not a MS Windows programmer either.
I managed to find in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data directory file <mysystem>.err and what I've found inside of it is this;
"110116 10:38:20 [Note] E:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin\mysqld: ready for connections.
Version: '5.5.8' socket: '' port: 3309 MySQL Community Server (GPL)"

Why wouldn't the system assign any socket to the program?
Or it is a misprint?

How I can install MySQL, PLEASE?
