Thank you!! This did it for me. I had gone through the rest of the possibilities like field type etc. but your post listed the foreign key must reference an auto-increment field. Mine isn't auto-increment in the other table. I checked my other descended tables and bingo, they didn't have a foreign key either. No Foreign Key for me! MySQL Workbench failed me here as I copied the script from it's modelling area and the parent table there is definitely not auto-increment.

I set the foreign key I wanted to part of the primary key instead, and I also had to manually put in the index for it.
